Around The Courts: Inaugural Summer Camp Launches at Crandon Park Tennis Center
Big news from Crandon Park; our first-ever Summer Tennis Camp launches June 15. May also wrapped with a strong stretch of league playoffs, a junior L2 tournament, and a Love to Play graduation. Plus, facility upgrades roll on. Here’s the latest from our courts.
Introducing: Crandon Park Tennis Summer Camp
We’re thrilled to launch our inaugural Crandon Park Tennis Summer Camp. Beginning June 15, USTA Florida is excited to welcome youth ages 5 to 17 to the tennis center for a half day of on- and off-court activities and instruction. Camp runs June 15 through July 31 (no camp on July 3) and happens rain or shine. Parents can register for as many dates as they like, making it easy to build a summer that fits your family’s schedule.
Junior & Adult Tennis Highlights
May brought a packed schedule of competitive play and program milestones. We’ve enjoyed having all the area schools at the facility for match play this spring, including district play back in April. It’s been great to see so many young players competing on our courts and to support the local high school tennis community.
We also hosted the Men’s 4.0 Playoffs and the Women’s 2.5 Playoffs and successfully ran an L2 Tournament that drew strong junior competition to the facility. We also celebrated a group of adults who graduated from our Love to Play Program, a great reminder of how many new players are discovering the sport right here at Crandon Park.
Looking ahead, Summer Adult USTA Leagues begin in June, giving our adult community plenty of competitive match play opportunities throughout the summer months.
Facility Updates
Light repairs are well underway across the facility. Courts 1, 2, 3, 8, and 9 have already had their lights repaired, and the week of May 25, the project continues with courts 12, 13, 19, and 20. These upgrades are an important investment in keeping our courts ready for play around the clock, and we appreciate everyone’s patience as the work continues.
Coaches Tip of the Month
Always get back to ready position. After every shot, recover quickly with your feet active and your racquet out in front, prepared for the next ball. Strong recovery habits and consistent ready position are what separate players who scramble from players who control the point. Tennis rewards the player who’s ready first.
